Al-Ahwaz (Khuzestan) is being used as a major base for terrorist attacks in Iraq, according to reports received by the British Ahwazi Friendship Society.
Documents from the Iranian regime's Fajr Garrison in Al-Ahwaz show that Tehran is employing up to 40,000 agents in Iraq. The information was revealed by former Iranian agents who defected due to pay cuts.
Fajr Garrison, near the city of Ahwaz, is the main headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in southern Iran. It hosts the IRGC's Qods Force, which runs the vast underground network in Iraq. Agents are paid by middle-men, who carry out regular visits to Ahwaz City to obtain payments and be debriefed by Qods commanders.
Reports suggest that Tehran is preparing to use the network to activate an armed uprising by insurgent groups later this year. The primary target in the Shia areas of eastern Iraq will be the British military presence in Basra, which borders Khuzestan.
Daniel Brett, Chairman of the British Ahwazi Friendship Society, said: "The Ahwazis have long been the victims of ruthless persecution and crack-downs by the IRGC and Tehran-backed militias. Now the militarisation of Ahwaz is a threat to global security.
"The demilitarisation of Khuzestan is imperative to ensure regional stability and security and protect the human rights of oppressed Ahwazi Arabs. We call upon the UN to put pressure on Iran to stop using Ahwaz to export insurgency and terrorism, to withdraw its troops from Khuzestan and back self-determination for the peace-loving Ahwazi Arabs."
